What kind of objects and what kind of bodies are being detained and how do they unfold as a representation of the state facing crime? This book is a compilation of images and objects of Estética del crimen’s archive –a collection of photographs created and spread by the Mexican governmental institutions– as a warning of the staging and to clear up the illusion of chastisement against the rest of the unpunished crimes in the country.

The symmetry in these images and the spatial disposition of each body are a result of a pretension of transparency and objectivity at the eyes of the law. The confiscated objects draw attention to their own materiality and their status as witnesses to an absent event: the crime. The photographs of the detentions address the absurd, the domestic in the public realm and the violence of its materiality. Nevertheless, they forget that identity persists in gestures, tattoos and clothing, revealing the reification of the subject who commits a crime.
