This publication is very special because it has been 4 years since we moved from Mexico City to NYC. It was 2021 and we were still dealing with the psychic aftermath of the pandemic. It was a hot month of August when we arrived in this city, to the Inwood neighborhood to be more exact. Lots of queloqué, dembow booming in the windows, concón, rabito, baseball, ice cream dripping down your hands and “god bless you my brother”. And again to start from scratch. Learning a new language, new laws and of course, the codes. It was like setting up all over again. For example, here it is not legal to drink in the streets, but it is okay if the drink is hidden inside a paper bag. I still don’t understand that and many other things….
